BCSO: Search underway for man who fell off boat, disappeared at Calaveras Lake

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office is involved in the search for a man who fell out of the boat he was riding in and disappeared in Calavares Lake, around 20 miles southeast of San Antonio.

Sheriff Javier Salazar says the man was with two other men while fishing around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, but it is unclear why he fell out of the boat.

One of the other men jumped into the water to rescue the man, but he could not be found.

It is believed the water in the primary search area is about 20 feet deep and divers are being called to the scene to continue the search.

Sheriff Salazar says the man was not wearing a life preserver or any kind of floatation device.

The search was expected to continue overnight, if necessary, with the assistance of the Bexar County Emergency Services District and Texas Game Wardens. The San Antonio police helicopter EAGLE is also on the scene, along with the San Antonio Fire Department.

The name of the man is not being released, but he is described as being in his 30s.

All boats and recreational activities on the lake are suspended as the search continues.

This is a developing story and more details will be given when possible.
