Paxton wins legal battle against Twitter over censorship policies

SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — Texas Attorney General Paxton is declaring another victory in court against Twitter, this time after a federal court refused to reconsider throwing out a lawsuit filed by the social media platform.

In a release, Attorney General Paxton says the San Francisco-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit confirmed Twitter’s lawsuit against him was baseless. The Twitter lawsuit was filed after Attorney General Paxton issued civil investigative demands (“CIDs”) to the social media giant to figure out if its widespread content moderation and censorship policies violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. But instead of complying, Attorney General Paxton says Twitter sued him.

“I’ve been asking Twitter for years to answer questions about its content moderation and large-scale censorship, but Twitter’s only response has been to try and hide behind its bogus lawsuits against me,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Now that yet another court has ruled in our favor and more details surrounding Twitter’s censorship have come to light, I look forward to helping get to the bottom of any actions that the company took to mislead consumers.”

Attorney General Paxton says Twitter’s lawsuits have been nothing more than distraction. He adds that recently reported details contained within the “Twitter Files” have confirmed that the platform’s censorship policies were just as bad, if not worse, than what was suspected by Attorney General Paxton and other free speech advocates.
