SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — The City Council voted to approve a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit in the death of a man killed by a San Antonio police officer.

Antronie Scott was unarmed when he was shot and killed by San Antonio Police Officer John Lee on February 4, 2016 at an apartment complex on the North Side.

The council voted unanimously on Thursday to approve the $450,000 settlement with Scott’s family. The suit was scheduled to go to trial in April before Scott’s family reportedly agreed to settle. Scott’s mother, wife and son will each receive $150,000.

Lee was reportedly assisting other officers attempted to arrest Scott on outstanding drug warrants at the incident in 2016. The officer told the department he believed that Scott had a gun in his hand, but it was his cell phone instead.

Lee left the police department in February 2020 and was reportedly found dead in home a few months later in July. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office said Lee died accidentally due to a toxic combination of prescription drugs coupled with a heart condition.
